15 March, 2021

Coinciding with the celebration of “Doha, Capital of Islamic Culture 2021”

The initiative highlights the role of women in various social fields

The Qatari Forum for Authors announced the launch of the initiative “They are Leaders and Writers”. During this initiative, the forum hosts a group of active Qatari women from various fields to shed light on the leadership role of women in the State of Qatar.

Buthaina Al-Ansari said that the initiative aims at shedding light on the role of Qatari women in various social, economic and political fields through their participation in local and international forums. As a matter of fact, she noted that the evaluation of the role of women is always based on old indicators and statistics which reduces the value of the participation of Qatari women in the economic and cultural movement.  Accordingly, “They are leaders and writers” comes to give the Qatari women their deserved value and to introduce honorable ideals for the current and next generation of girls.

During this initiative, Dr. Buthaina Al-Ansari, Strategic Planning and Human Development Expert, also Director of Women and Children Programs at the Qatari Forum of Authors, will conduct dialogues with a number of women icons in the Qatari society to achieve the objectives of this initiative. In her first dialogue today, she will host Her Excellency Dr. Aisha bint Yousef Al-Mannai, a member of the Arab Parliament and the Shoura Council in the State of Qatar, and Director of the Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilization at the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

It is worth noting that this initiative came within the framework of the celebration of the events of “Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021”. The initiative coincides also with the forum’s celebration of International Women’s Day throughout March. In addition to that, the initiative comes simultaneously with the declaration of the Islamic World Organization for Education, Science and Culture “ISESCO” that 2021 will be the year of women, choosing as a slogan “Women and the Future”, and entitled (Raising Awareness of the Role of Women in Creating a Sustainable Future). All these events are in line with the efforts of the State of Qatar to empower women and to provide an environment that promotes their cultural, social and economic rights.
