The Ministry of Culture and Sports will open a new branch of Nomas Center in Al Wakrah. In fact, this inauguration is within the center’s expansion plan to spread in the country’s neighboring regions. This expansion plan is also an implementation of the center’s mission to be a professional school and an incubator for culture and heritage in the State of Qatar.

The opening of the Nomas Center branch in Al Wakra comes within the program of hosting “Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic world 2021”, which adopts as a slogan “Our Culture is Enlightenment”. The main reason behind the inauguration of Al Wakra branch is the center’s ability to highlight the richness of local culture and the human values of the culture of the State of Qatar as well as its ancient history.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports decided that the location of the center should be in the cultural village of the old market of Al-Wakra as the center building belongs to the urban character of old Qatari houses. The place also coincides with the center’s vision of consolidating the Qatari identity. Moreover, one crucial reason is that the place witnesses a great turnout of visitors from various nationalities, which contributes to informing all visitors and introducing them to customs, traditions and Qatari identity.

The Nomas Center is one of the centers belonging to the Ministry of Culture and Sports. Indeed, the center contributes to the development of juveniles and youths of both genders by investing their spare time in learning and practicing many activities related to the heritage and authentic customs of Qataris, drawn from religion and high morals. Starting from its vision of establishing values and strengthening national identity, “Nomas” equips the learners with the skills that qualify them for self-reliance and responsibility.

Nomas seeks to be the link between the holders of the Qatari cultural heritage and the youths, and to prepare a Qatari generation distinguished by Islamic values and authentic Arab behaviors. In addition to that, “Nomas” aims at preparing a generation of professional trainees to carry the cultural heritage for future generations. Furthermore, the center makes every effort to enhance the value of the Qatari identity and originality and to consolidate the values and traditions of the Qatari society. One important goal of the center is to preserve the heritage of the Qatari society. Instilling a spirit of belonging and citizenship, participating in various activities locally and internationally, and preserving the natural resources and components of the Qatari environment are main objectives the center attempts to achieve.

It is worth noting that the Nomas Center was established in 2014 as an educational center that contributes to investing the youth’s spare time in learning and practicing many activities related to the heritage and authentic customs of the people of Qatar in terms of settlement and travel, on land and at sea, and in various walks of life.
