14 April, 2021

Within the activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2021, the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, announced the launch of “Katara Short Story” competition, and as a continuation of the short story competitions that Katara used to launch annually in Ramadan.

The topic of “Relatives and kinship” was chosen to be the main focus around which the stories participating in the competition revolve, due to the great importance that Islam places on the relationship of compassion to relatives.

Katara stressed the need for the participant to adhere to the topic of the story, with the necessity that the number of words should not be less than 1500 words and not more than 5,000 words. It is also required that the story be written in classical Arabic and in a language free from spelling errors, taking into account the punctuation. Among the conditions also is that the story should not have been previously published in any of the media outlets, or won any prize before, so that it is written particularly to the competition.

The participation is available for writers of both sexes without being restricted by age, provided that the contestant has the right to participate with one story only. The story has to be attached to a word file only, and the participating writers must send their stories in print and in form to the email: [email protected]

Participants are also required to send their recent colored personal photos, along with other information that includes name, address, phone number, e-mail, place and date of birth, provided that “Katara Publishing House” has the right to publish the winning entries, as the writer’s sending of the story is a final approval to publish it in the event of the winning.

The last date for receiving the entries is in Ramadan 29th, while the results of the competition will be announced on July 29th. Katara Publishing House has allocated three prizes for the winners of this competition. The first winner will receive an amount of 15,000 Qatari riyals, while the second winner will win an amount of 12,000 Qatari riyals, and the third winner will get a prize of 10,000 Qatari riyals.
