The Department of Heritage and Identity of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in co-operation with Nomas Center, has launched the competition “My Culture. My Identity,” as part of the ‘Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021’ activities.
The competition aims to promote Islamic values that are based on science and human dignity, enhance the Islamic cultural heritage, encourage creativity and innovation as civilised values and to inspire new generations as well as to enrich the global cultural scene through a productive and active role which focuses on cultural diversity as an added value for Islamic countries.
The competition also aims at highlighting the cultural experience of Qatar and its efforts in promoting the Islamic culture and introducing young people to their ancient heritage, customs and authentic traditions.
Director of the Heritage and Identity Department Sheikha Najla al-Thani said culture is an essential component of identity, and that the culture of people or a nation is the mirror that reflects their identity, history and civilisation. She stressed the significance of cultural heritage in its tangible and intangible parts, in consolidating the national identity and promoting a sense of belonging to the homeland.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports, represented by the Heritage and Identity Department and the Nomas Center, is keen on launching this competition, which is a cultural heritage competition that comes within the activities of ‘Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021.’
In a related context, the organising committee of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021 has prepared a gift box for the activities of the blessed month of Ramadan. The gift box includes interactive activities aimed at highlighting the value of time, instilling moral values, identity and heritage, and in developing manual skills among children. The box has three sections — stories of the prophets, heritage and identity, and arts and creativity — and was prepared in co-operation with several bodies.
