A number of creators and calligraphers of Arabic calligraphy from Qatar and Arab world emphasized that Doha capital of culture in the Islamic world 2021, is an opportunity to emphasize the splendor and aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy across the Islamic civilization. They stressed that Arabic calligraphy is one of the most important arts created by the Arab Islamic civilization and the most widespread in the Arab countries and Muslims alike, we find it in the architecture of doors, weaving, utensils, furniture and others.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), they clarified that Arab and Muslim calligraphers of different schools and places were able to make Arabic calligraphy a tool for the aesthetic expression of the Holy Qur’an, combining the meaning and the materiality of drawing, so that the Muslim calligrapher was sometimes able to insert more than one line in a single painting, which gave a glory and beauty.
The Qatari calligrapher Rashid Al Mohannadi, said: “Since the descent of the Holy Qur’an, the writers and the calligraphers have competed in perfecting the writing of the Holy Qur’an and output it in the best way. The arts of decoration, binding and gilding developed, and then extended to include architecture and the decoration of mosques, fountains, and other creations of the Muslim artist in calligraphy, so calligraphy was the locomotive that led all other Islamic arts”.
He added that the Arabic calligraphy still has an appeal despite its fading due to the crowding out of the modern way of life, but in recent years we have started to witness an increasing interest in this original art, and groups of the young generation have begun to be interested in developing their awareness and practice of this art, and the number of those who fall in love with it is increasing specially the youth category.
He continued: “This year, with the celebration of Doha, the capital of culture in the Islamic world 2021, we are all hopeful with what we have known in our beloved country of good organization and creativity in management that this occasion will be an opportunity to advance this authentic art of the facade by raising awareness of its value and aesthetics, and supporting young talents in this field And holding exhibitions, lectures, courses, competitions, and other activities that explore talents and stimulate energies, indicating that the calligraphy has become an integral part of his life, especially during the experience he goes through in writing the Holly Qur’an”.
For his part, Dr. Ali Afifi Ali Ghazi, a researcher in history, stressed that hosting Doha, the capital of culture in the Islamic world, is an opportunity to highlight Arabic calligraphy as the essence of the arts for Muslims in all time, because it represents the basis on which Islamic arts have been based for more than 14 centuries, and the rest of the arts such as decoration and gilding revolved around it. And dotting, binding and other arts, indicating that Arabic calligraphy also represents the essence of Islamic arts spatially, because it forms the fields of Islamic art in a way that distinguishes the unity of the Islamic nation in its faith, history, sciences and arts throughout the Islamic world.

For example the Kufic script, they knew from it the leafy Kufic, the flower, the square, the Qur’an kufic, and so on.
For his part, the Arab calligrapher Ubaidah Al-Banki, who copied the Qur’an of Qatar, said that the art of calligraphy in the Islamic civilization enjoyed a higher position than other artistic forms as it was the means in which the Holly Qur’an was transmitted and written, so it was natural for calligraphy to form a unifying factor from the spiritual point of view and occupy a distinct and high position Because of its gracefulness and fluidity in nature, and a distinct ability to form and diversify.
He pointed out that Arabic calligraphy conveys to us through its letters certain artistic and aesthetic values, and through the glorified word.
