A number of employees of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums, the Katara Cultural Village Foundation and the cultural centers participated in the workshop.
Dr. Khaled Al Belushi stressed on the importance of cultural diversity and its reflection on the individual through constantly increasing knowledge, creating different social relationships, building a confident and strong personality, increasing innovation and creativity, and solving problems in a positive way, in addition to its reflection on society generally in raising competencies and increasing productivity and promoting respect among members of the community.
He touched on the most important challenges facing the promotion of cultural diversity, including the difficulties that managers and officials face when managing people from different cultural backgrounds and environments, as well as language barriers that prevent effective and proper communication between people.
Al Belushi indicated that among the challenges also the unfair attention that the majority group may receive at the expense of the minority, whether within the same country or within the same institution, and the disintegration and bias between members of the various groups, which causes a lack of trust between them, as well as the conflicts that escalate as a result of differences in opinions and viewpoints towards a problem specific.
He said that cultural diversity is the way to dialogue and development through cultural diversity, stressing that a person can with a good understanding of the nature of his culture, identity and beliefs, absorb the idea of the difference of others in values and ideas, and thus respect and accept them. He called for appreciation of this difference and getting rid of stereotypes, because the people cannot have any cultural response, if they stick to stereotypes that have been built around different cultures.
